How is this different from Windows voice typing (Win+H)?

Windows voice typing is built in and fine for a quick sentence. This is aimed at the rest: you pick the engine, it can run entirely on your PC, the text is cleaned of fillers and false starts before it lands, it works with one shortcut in any app, and the same app records and summarises your meetings.

Does it replace Windows Speech Recognition?

For dictation, yes. Microsoft deprecated Windows Speech Recognition in December 2023 and points Windows 11 users to Voice access, which is built to control the PC by voice. TranscribeNext does one thing: turns what you say into finished text in the field you are typing in. It does not control Windows by voice.

Is this Whisper for Windows?

Whisper V3 Turbo is one of its engines, and you can pick it; NVIDIA Parakeet v3 is the other and the default. The app is everything around them: the tray shortcut, typing into any field, the AI polish pass, meeting auto-detect, speaker labels, summaries and the folder your audio never leaves.

I need Windows text to speech. Is this it?

No — this is the opposite direction: speech to text, your voice becoming typed text. For text to speech, Windows has Narrator built in, and Microsoft Edge can read pages aloud.

Does dictation work in every app?

In any app that takes typing: Outlook, Word, Teams, Slack, Notion, your browser, a code editor. It finds the focused field through Windows UI Automation and types into it, with no permission to grant. Password boxes are skipped, and Windows does not let an ordinary app type into one running as administrator — there the finished text waits in the app for you to copy.

Where does my voice go?

Your audio stays on your PC: transcription and recording are local, and recordings are written to a folder you choose. One step is not local — the AI cleanup of dictated text, which needs a signed-in account, sends the transcript, never the audio. Switch dictation output to the raw transcript and nothing leaves. Translation of transcripts runs in the cloud.

Will it run on my laptop?

If it runs 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 with 8 GB of RAM, yes. The default engine runs on the processor, so integrated graphics are fine; a GPU with a Vulkan driver only makes the Whisper engine and local summaries faster. The app tells you which models fit before you download them.

Which meeting apps does it detect?

Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Webex on the desktop, which it can record automatically, and Slack, Discord and RingCentral calls, where it asks first. In the browser it recognises Google Meet and Zoom in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and other Chromium browsers. Teams running in a browser tab is not detected.

Hardware compatibility

The Whisper engine and local summaries use your GPU through Vulkan — GeForce, Radeon and Intel Arc or integrated graphics alike. No driver of the right kind, and they quietly run on the CPU instead.

Parakeet runs on any processor

The default engine, NVIDIA Parakeet v3, runs on the CPU, so a laptop without a dedicated GPU dictates just as well.

Windows on ARM

There is no native ARM64 build yet. The app is built for x64 Windows; on Snapdragon laptops it is untested under emulation.
